Charles McClain, aka Carl McClain, aka Harry Smith, OSR 1846, 2/18/04,ink, photographs, cards, 5.25 x 6.5 inches
R.U. Hastings, Bertillon Officer (n.d.)
Collection of the Ohio History Connection
DescriptionMr. McClain was a cigar maker who was convicted on a count of larceny committed in Marion County, Ohio. Received on February 13, 1904, Mr. McClain was measured quickly, waiting only five days for his time in the Bertillon Room. On the back, it is noted that he was later sent back to the Ohio State Reformatory in 1909, although this time under the name of Harry Smith, and as prisoner number 4205. Also on the back, one can see his Bertillon measurements written in pencil, suggesting that they were noted from elsewhere before being transcribed here, or, alternatively, noted here for transcription elsewhere.
