John Zaudzis, OSR 989, 3/31/02, ink, photographs, cards, 5.75 x 6.25 inches
R.U. Hastings, Bertillon Officer (n.d.)
Collection of the Ohio History Connection
Mr. Zaudzis was, as noted on the back of his Bertillon card, “extremely tired” at the time of his measurement. He was of Finnish descent, and was convicted of horse stealing in Warren County, Ohio. Horse stealing was a very common offense in the records of the Ohio Penal System, and might usefully be compared to stealing a car today.
