DescriptionUtilizing the technology of forensic reconstruction, artist Heather Dewey-Hagborg has created full-size portraits based on a DNA sample provided by the incarcerated whistleblower Chelsea Manning (b. 1987). While the US military has taken every precaution to make Chelsea disappear from public view, Chelsea and Heather use the techniques normally reserved for prosecution to deliver a three-dimensional selfie from beyond the prison walls. Taking this metaphor of liberation further, Chelsea chose to have her portrait rendered using both a female and male genetic profile.
