Collection of Ronald Freeman. Lent by Allegheny City Historical Gallery, Pittsburgh
This early-twentieth-century police register from Allegheny City, filled with the records of crimes that took place across Pittsburgh, reveals a local implementation of the Bertillon System of Identification. Located below the data and measurements of Bertillonnage is a significant amount of information that was used more traditionally by the American system of identification, such as place of residence and occupation. The birthplaces, places of residence, and the locations of the crimes for these four individuals are visualized above.
