Balthasar Moncornet (ca. 1600-1668)
circa 1600 - 1668
BiographyBalthasar Moncornet was a French artist schooled in painting and engraving, as well as an art dealer who sold prints. In the UAG collection, prints such as Personnages, Banquet, Portrait of Callot, Le passage des enfants d'Israel par la mer rouge and two versions of the Le Triomphe de David are attributed to Moncornet. Although there is reason to believe that these prints were done by the hand of Moncornet, as suggested by the signatures and by information given in the Lieure Catalog, there is some ambiguity as to who Balthasar Moncornet was and the Benezit explains that historians are unsure if Thomas Moncornet was the same artist as Balthasar Moncornet.
